The Shawshank Redemption

The movie Shawshank Redemption was directed by Frank Darabont. The main characters are Morgan Freeman who plays Red and Tim Robbins who plays Andy. Andy is sent to jail for a crime he did not commit. This movie in my opinion is made and should be watched by an older audience. There is violence and vulgarity in the movie which makes it one that a younger child or anyone young should not watch. Many people may view this movie in different perspectives. Some may feel that Andy is a horrible person or such because he killed his wife but others may feel opposite. I would definitely categorize this movie into the drama genre. It could even be put into the suspense/thriller genre because this movie keeps the audience thinking what Andy is going to do about being put in jail for something he did not do.
I think the purpose of this film was to show that determination can really help you. And also hope. In the movie, the tag-line is very important. Hope is what set Andy free and to me I see that the hope Andy had was a form of God. God set us free from our sins. Fear is what keeps you prisoner is also a big part in the movie. Fear is somewhat satan. Fear is what keeps us from getting anything done. But with even a little bit of hope, we can grow that hope into something that can set us free.
The title is very fitting to the movie and fitting to the spirituality as well. Redemption is like the hope and setting us free. I don't really get the shawshank part though. Andy is the one being redeemed in my view. Because he was sent to jail even though he didn't do the crime he was accused for. It could also be that we are the ones being redeemed. Because Andy is symbolic of God in this movie. God was killed and crucified because of our sins. Like God, Andy was sent to jail because of something someone else did. The movie as a whole is very symbolic.
The movie was very interesting to me though despite the shawshank part of the title.
