The story of stuff is an documentary directed by Louis Fox and narrated by Annie Leonard. This video was released December 4 2007. The creative techniques that the creator used is the animation. I like how the film is animated to attract everyones attention. Whether if its adults or kids, everyone can be drawn to this documentary. The animated documentary is being used in mostly schools particularly elementary school. Also is being used in economic classes. From elementary kids to students in economic classes in college, everyone can understand the message its trying to say. The point of this film is to reach out to everyone globally about waste and recycling. It reminds everyone to be aware of the environment. The spiritual input in this is that everyone should take action over environmental issues because God has given us a place to live that we should take care of what he has given us.

ReplyDeleteThe Story of Stuff
23 November 2009
The Story of Stuff was written and hosted by Annie Leonard, a Cornell University alumni with numerous jobs for “Go Green” companies under her belt. The movie was produced by Free Range Studios(a company determined to make our planet better by getting news out) and directed by Louis Fox. The movie was released in 2007 and has so far reached seven million views with a myriad of great reviews. The Story of Stuff is a fast paced video(about twenty minutes long) that deals with the negative effects of the modern production cycle of america.
The fact that the whole video is made in a easy stick figure format makes what Annie is talking about easy to follow. Various arrows point to what comes next in the cycle and appealing yet simple art is used to attract even the smallest child. Another point that makes this movie attractive is that it is fairly short. Unlike those two hour Michael Moore documentaries which deal with somewhat related topics. A child will be attracted to this movie due to its simple art but they won’t get the gist of the message because they are not yet old enough to understand production in america. A teenager has potential to understand this message but won’t really be able to do anything about what they learn since they are not major consumers. Annie made this video super easy for an adult to understand. When the adult sees this movie I’m sure they will be impacted in some way and able to change not all but a few of their old buying habits.
The value I saw played throughout this movie is that of community. Yeah sure we can all do our specific parts and keep the earth clean but our efforts will always fall short unless we all come together as a community and fight the problem of waste. I believe that message is being sent so we can combat the effects excess “stuff” has on our earth and prolong its longevity.
I don’t feel this movie says anything about God in particular but I do believe it deals with our respect towards God. We should be thankful for everything God has blessed us with and not feel like we need to buy the latest and greatest item just to have some “value”. Excess buying will never fill the gap of emptiness we have within us. We are all valuable in Gods eyes. Rich or poor. A lot of stuff or a little stuff. It doesn’t matter to Him because He loves us all the same.
